Alicia
Info
Alicia is a very dynamic 23 year old with a great love for challenges and adventure. Her debut album is a little bit of all different styles of music that she enjoys listening to. The album incorporates Pop, Rock, R&B and Middle Eastern influences. Like any young, ambitious individual, Alicia was auditioned and got her first record deal with Indieblack Records in December 2007 and started working on her new album titled “The Making of me” in March 2008. “This was an amazing experience that taught me a great deal”, I was blessed to have been able to work with such a wonderful spirited and enormously talented producer and I believe we have created a unique fascinating product”, Alicia says.
“Naturally I still enjoy singing jazz and perform in a jazz duo and trio, which serves as an inspiration and encouragement to continue to grow and to better myself, she added.
Alicia’s real passion for music started at the ripe age of thirteen. Being a dancer, she was mostly drawn to the rhythms and beats in music. She became a self-taught little drummer, playing in various bands throughout high school. She was always fascinated by musical instruments and taught herself to play a little guitar, piano and also a saxophone. At the age of sixteen, she became a lead singer and a drummer of one of her bands. “That’s where it all started”, she says. During 11th and 12th grade, she took up classical music as a subject at her school and even did a little “Classical Singing”.
As dancing is one of her many talents, Alicia took up ballet in which she won the Mabel Ryan award, modern dancing and acrobation in which she received National Colours. She also did Latin dancing, gymnastics and tumbling. “I guess I never could decide on just one thing”, Alicia says. I knew that music is my calling as I found myself in music and music continued to find me”, she says. She started to study B-Mus (Classical music majoring in flutes and sax), but after 6 months she realised that she was more interested in jazz music, She then decided to take up jazz studies at (TUT), The University of Technology, majoring in vocals. “This is the best decision I have ever made, I immediately felt like that is where I’m suppose to be”, she says. Alicia is in her final year of her diploma and hopes to complete a degree in the near future.
"My love for music is a bit of a mystery, as it definitely didn’t come from the family! Music had always been something I can run to when things get a little too much, and something I can share it with when I’m cheerful. Music has never let me down. I enjoy all types of music, and there isn’t really a favourite."
Indieblack Records is also looking forward to launching Alicia’s first album “The Making of Me”. A 12 track record which is musically versatile and cutting edge. “The Making of Me” promises to be something that the listening public will enjoy. ….
